Think of Africa and you automatically think of safari. There is no other place on earth that has such a diverse range of animals living in relative accessibility. From the apex predators to the smallest insect, Africa is more than a giant safari park: these are wild animals living in their natural habitat, albeit with defined borders. The range of habitat is as variable as the animals themselves: from waterlogged delta to seemingly arid salt pans, the scenery adds a dramatic backdrop to those perfect pictures. In the southern hemisphere, summer time is our winter and vice versa. When is the best time to go? The answer is: it's always a good time to go! The animals are around all year and the experienced trackers and rangers will be able to guide the game drives to get the most out of your trip. The Big Five Most people have heard of Africa's Big Five: lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant. Whilst these are thrilling encounters, sighting any of the animals in the reserves is equally exciting. As with all types of nature watching there are no guarantees to specific animals but with good guides and local knowledge a wide range animals will be encountered.
