GUIDED TOUR: Shark Diving Adventure

South Africa offers some of the best adventure diving in the world including awesome beach launches and amazing shark diving. During this Shark Diving Adventure, you will focus on different dive sites for different species of sharks, enjoying up-close and personal encounters with the oceans apex predators!

Joining a small group of divers (maximum of 9 divers plus 2 guides), the tours depart on set dates.  This is an ideal option for single travellers, or dive clubs/groups. The tour starts and ends at Durban airport, diving Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks,.

Day 1: Beginning at Durban airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred [about 20mins]  to  Illovo Beach for your stay. The luxury upmarket log-cabins overlook the ocean and have en-suite facilities. There is a swimming pool just a few metres away from the lodge. The accommodation is close to many activities, is available as single, twin or double occupancy and is serviced daily. In the evening  enjoy a BBQ [known locally as a braai] where you will get to know the group and your guide.

Days 2-3: An early morning rise for two dives on Aliwal Shoal, situated about 5kms offshore from the town of Umkomaas on the Kwazulu Natal South Coast, it has been rated as one of the best sites in the world to see Ragged-tooth sharks and Giant guitar sharks. Aliwal Shoal also attracts a variety of other sharks including Tiger sharks, Hammerheads, Blacktip [spinner] sharks and more, as well as being home to morays, mantas, whales, dolphins, Brindle bass and reef fish. In the evening dinner is at one of the local bars or restaurants.

Days 4-5: An early morning rise for two dives on Protea Banks, situated about 7.5kms offshore from the town of Shelly Beach on Kwazulu Natal’s South Coast. The aim today is to dive with Ragged-tooth sharks or Zambezi [Bull] sharks. Protea Banks offers a great chance to see many different sharks including Hammerheads, Tiger sharks, Bronze whalers, Duskies, Guitar sharks and more... In the evening  dinner is at one of the local bars or restaurants.

Day 6: Spend the day at sea, diving with Tiger sharks on the southern end of Aliwal Shoal. The Tiger shark diving is very similar to  Great white cage diving, except there's no cage! A chum line is created  to attract the sharks: when the sharks arrive, the real action begins and its time to get in the water ! Normally there are between two and six [but can be as many as fifteen or more] Tiger Sharks as well as Blacktip [Spinner] sharks and on occasion other species. This is an amazing encounter with one of the oceans most awesome predators. In the evening dinner is at one of the local bars or restaurants.

Day 7: Another chance to dive with those Tiger sharks!

Day 8: In the morning, enjoy breakfast at the lodge before being transferred to Durban airport

Prices from: £860 excluding flights

Includes: all transfers; guide for your entire tour; breakfasts; 7 nights accommodation, 6 days diving (8 dives including cylinders/weights: 2 days/4 dives Aliwal Shoal, 2 days/4 dives Protea Banks, plus 2 days Tiger shark diving)

"I had a great holiday with Scuba Addicts and would highly recommend them to anyone. The diving was excellent: diving in Cathedral with Ragged-tooth sharks while listening to Humpback whales singing in the background, baited shark dive surrounded by over 30 sharks, swimming among large shoals of fish in Mozambique and snorkelling with Whale sharks were just some of the highlights! Apart from the sharks, rays and other big things we also saw Paper fish, Frog fish and Sea moths, none of which I had ever seen before ... Thanks again for all of your help organising the holiday." - Martina Nolan, November 2007
